How DO you turn "Cool" into a Business?

I wanted to pass on something that inspired me, I thought would inspire you too!

Entrepreneurship starts with a great idea, everyone has a few great ideas here and there. Some people are known for having a great idea every time they wake up, leave the bathroom, or walk down the street.

What makes the difference is when you take your great idea and DO something with it.

I have a "Great Idea file" and suggest that you have one too. I also suggest that you take at least one of those great ideas and begin to forge a plan of action to turn that idea into a reality.

Check out this creative guy below. His name is David and we connected via twitter.
He has taken a creative idea from a cool thought to "WOW, it's really happening!"

Isn't that what you want to do??

If you have not heard of Kickstarter then definitely read through the end and see how you can kickstart your cool thought just as David has done. He shares a few tips on how to get going.

Please give him a few minutes, its worth checking out for your love of ping pong, to see how to turn your idea into reality, or to support someone who is.

I was inspired and I hope you are too.

Thanks a bunch!!!

Hi, I'm David Lowe. I moved to Austin, TX from London, England at the end of February, I got straight into the entrepreneurial spirit and have just launched my first Kickstarter project. Uberpong combines art with ping pong:

The aim is to make table tennis more fun and accessible to play and make it the most played sport in the US. We launched last week and are currently on $2236. Here's how we got accepted on Kickstarter:

1). Have a truly remarkable idea
There is so much noise on the web and a lot of excellent projects on Kickstarter. You will hear a lot of people telling you it is not the idea but rather the execution that will make you successful. This is true in some industries but I really believe on Kickstarter it is all about the idea. Do NOT ask your friends or family for their opinion. Ask complete strangers in your industry for their critical feedback. If you feel like there is a need after this research, go for it!

2). Make a great video
As the bar rises on Kickstarter and more people add projects on the site, you have to stand out. A shaky iPhone video is not going to cut it. Viewers need to trust you and your message in less than 30 seconds. If the video is well made, edited with good music and has a clear message, it will be easier for people to decide whether they should back you.

3). Collaboration means more attention
Kickstarter and Amazon payments don't offer this service for nothing. They want to get paid. Between them, they take nearly 10% of the overall amount you raise. So if you can encourage collaboration in your project, this means more people will be talking about it, pledging and therefore your chance of being successfully funded goes up.

4). Take your time on the application
It took me nearly 2 weeks from start to finish for the Kickstarter application. Why so long? You have to have an incorporated business, tax ID, business bank account and have this authorized by Amazon. It is a painfully slow process. Be patient and make sure "The Story" is well thought out and the "Rewards" are enticing to viewers.

5). Go for an achievable target
I have seen many campaigns fail on Kickstarter because the company asked for too much money. If you only need $5k, then ask for $5k. Remember, if you don't hit the target, you get nothing so it is better to go slightly lower and exceed your target rather than the other way round.
